Altherr Orthodontics has been your Hometown Orthodontist in Apex since 2002. We like to think we have been a part in helping our patients achieve some of the goals in their lives like becoming Miss Teen North Carolina and acting in various Hollywood movies like Terminator Genisys. We provide various forms of orthodontic (braces) treatment ranging from retainers only to metal and clear braces and Invisalign. Children and teens comprise about 80% of our practice, but 20% of our practice are adults. What our adult patients often tell us after they come in for a complete and complimentary exam by Dr. Altherr, is how short (even 6 months) their actual treatment times are. Our office is in Apex Medical Park off highway 55 near highway 64, near the Super Target and the Wake Med in Apex.
We have a dedicated, talented and experienced team at Altherr Orthodontics. Each clinical team member has attained additional education past high school to become an orthodontic chairside assistant, and together, they have over 20 years of experience in orthodontics and dentistry. Our administrative team has over 45 years in orthodontics, dentistry and the customer service industry.
Dr. Altherr is a native of the area, having been born and raised in Cary with four other siblings, one of which is a twin sister of Dr. Altherr’s. After graduating from Cary High where he played soccer, he went on to UNC for his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Public Health. After UNC-Chapel Hill, he graduated with a Dental Medicine Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He practiced general dentistry for 2 more years before returning back to UNC-Chapel Hill’s prestigious orthodontics residency program for 3 more years of training and education. After completing the residency at UNC in 2002 with a master’s of science degree, he opened his solo-doctor orthodontic practice in Apex. In 2010, Dr. Altherr became board certified in orthodontics; only 30% of all practicing orthodontists achieve this level of distinction. Besides being passionate about his family and orthodontics, Dr. Altherr loves anything UNC and soccer, especially the English premier league football, specifically Arsenal FC. Having played many sports while growing up in the area and having treated many patients who attend or have gone to Middle Creek High, Dr. A is aware of the responsibility to be involved in the community, and proud to be an ongoing supporter/sponsor of the Stampede club.
